The weekly Looby-list of good things: A visual feast this week. Fabric art, fashion, crochet, oil painting in Tuscany, and good things to watch. There's also some tofu.
Cooking - a quiche, but I'm never happy with my veg choices - asparagus and prosciutto this time?
Fashion - the little yellow sweater with cherries. I'd like something bold I can also hide when my introvert side needs to.
Crush - that Game of Thrones fellow... Robb Stark. But also... Jon Snow, I guess I'm probably just happy if he's rugged and scottish and has ever owned a wolf.
oh - just need to pre-bake your crusts sufficiently. =)
This is my go to recipe - later can swap in and out veg you prefer (sautéed peppers/ mushrooms/ broccoli...and maybe add a bit of ham or prosciutto. But PREBAKE that crust first, though it doesn't mention it (400 degrees 10 minutes or so with pie weights). Many other quiche recipes do. https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/228658/asparagus-and-swiss-cheese-quiche/
Fashion - #52 - love the long coat. But #39 was a close second for the colors. I'm going to have to try this somehow.
Secret crush - Pedro Pascal just made the list but I'll probably choose Jung Hae-in, a Korean actor. https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=jung+hae+in&atb=v160-1&iax=images&ia=images My favorite show of his is probably D.P. on Netflix, which is about deserters from the army and the military police who try and bring them back. He was great in it.
Eric Kim's Gochujang Caramel Cookies are amazing. I've made them several times and my family gobbles them up. They are so weird! Plus, my mother-in-law just gave me one of those cookie scoop gadgets so now I can make them more uniform. https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1023675-gochujang-caramel-cookies
my initial thought was prunes in gelato sounded like a sneaky way of getting aperients into someone who was refusing them. it *was* delicious, so maybe it is. 🤷
I baked some amazing chocolate chip cookies with walnut brittle from Smitten Kitchen's new cookbook. I was hesitant to adjust my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe, but figured my book club was a good time to play. Book club got cancelled and my family and I are happily eating all the cookies.
Fashion: I really like #37 (of course I’d pick the least colorful outfit) but agree with some of the other comments that the coat in #52 is pretty fantastic.
Secret crush: David Mitchell (maybe not a traditional heart throb, but so funny). I really wish That Mitchell and Webb look was still streaming somewhere!
P.S. I am also bound to the owl (but I’m learning German!)
I am so glad you linked to that recipe as I have all the ingredients in the house, and it looks delicious. <3 David Mitchell is an excellent choice for a secret crush! x
I'm cooking Mexican Tortilla Soup today with one of those tubes that has all the dry soup ingredients in it from Mitchell's Soup Co! (This one: https://www.mitchellssoupco.com/collections/soup-chili-and-stew/products/sp-tort ). Every soup we've tried from there has been SO GOOD so far (Fog Pea, Fully Loaded Potato, Thai Coconut Prawn). We always end up with so much soup that we have to eat it for every meal for three days but it's worth it.
Also I love the jacket the girl is wearing in #52 of the Copenhagen Street Style article!
#52 is getting some strong votes. That coat is beautiful. She looks so effortless. Did you see the boots I was talking about in #49? Impressively slumpy.
Rockin Moroccan is the BEST Mitchell's - we eat it once, have left overs next day and freeze the rest in 3 single serving portions, yum! Now I know what I'll make this week!
if I can't wear flip-flops, I don't think I could handle m' toes separated by a half inch! And in that colour, they literally look like camel toes, yuk! lol

Quiche... I have never made one. How do you avoid it coming out sloppy? Got a good recipe?

getting some asparagus to make this. ta!
Cooking - not much. Maybe this soup - https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1023869-white-bean-rice-and-dill-soup but probably chicken breasts and millet for my normal lunch salad

Pedro Pascal is sneaking to the top of my list too. I am making note of D.P. Thanks for the suggestion!
D.P is pretty dark as it deals with bullying in the military. There is also a bromance element to it which lightens the mood but it trends dark.

I'm bookmarking that! Thank you :D
1. Home made Vanilla and Prune gelato. On request from my Clare for her birthday. I make it using a custard base with our backyard chook eggs.
2. Number 38. Coz she looks really happy. And has a bike. And looks like a person.
3. It's a secret. But if it wasn't, Joan Wasser is the best. (Joan As Police Woman).
What the heck?? That gelato sounds so good!
10,000 points for keeping your secret crush a secret.
and yay for 10,000 points. I'm hooked now.

I really have to check out that cookbook!
Cooking: I made this “salad” on Friday and kind of want to make it again and double it (we liked it that much!) https://smittenkitchen.com/2023/01/cauliflower-salad-with-dates-and-pistachios/

I made the salad and LOVE it. Ate it for lunch in the office two days in a row. Thanks!
I’m so glad you liked it! It’s so simple but so good! I can’t wait to make it again!

I totally just made a big batch of a spicy chipotle chicken soup!! Going to serve it with slices of avocado and a squeeze of lime.
I love all of the Danish styles, the colours! the cherries! the sculptural knits, what a scroll
Love a big batch of spicy chicken soup. I sell it to the family by loading it up with corn chips.
Rockin Moroccan is the BEST Mitchell's - we eat it once, have left overs next day and freeze the rest in 3 single serving portions, yum! Now I know what I'll make this week!
1. Porridge w cinnamon sugar and Tanzanian plunger coffee is about as gourmet as I will get this coming week
2. The white puffer/ parka w orange daisies, #3
3. The guy wearing the above
Kate! You add cinnamon sugar to your porridge which makes it 150% more exciting than my microwaved quick oats with super bland unsweetened nut milk.
I adore that puffer - and yes, he is a hardcore contestant for the number 1. spot on the secret crush list.
Oh no, boot thong = complete ignore
Slumpy, high, and piratey, to boot! You'll find me in the comfy #84 boots instead!
I kind of love those weird camel toe boots. I wonder if they're comfortable.
if I can't wear flip-flops, I don't think I could handle m' toes separated by a half inch! And in that colour, they literally look like camel toes, yuk! lol
Seriously, I think they are so cool! Will you speak to me in public if you see me wearing them at the grocery store?
