Ouch. Your no-pun wisdom hit me hard. Does this mean that your other wisdom is good too? Should I get around and start that newsletter (about food) I’ve been thinking abput for the past two years?
Anyway, only answering the first two questions, but 1: I’d say mayonnaise and choux pastry! Easier than you think they are and good for that feeling of kitchen mastery.
And 2: I’m not actually doing it, but it would be super boring as what I really need is strength training. I don’t like it. But it works. Bad combo. Although it is nice to be able to open all the jars by oneself.
Yes! Mayonnaise and choux pastry. Totally inspired. I am adding them to the list. I really need strength training too... or any expertise at all. hmm. And yes, start a newsletter. It's time consuming, but definitely well worth it!
somewhat related to the "wise woman" theme, I always think about strength training in terms of wanting to be able to carry my groceries when I'm a little old lady :)
Always so happy to see your newsletter in my inbox! Enjoying it with the early morning sun today. And since you asked...
1. Wild rice salad! I'll get you some from NW Ontario when I go there this summer. It's harvested on lakes around the area and is the absolute BEST thing! I add chickpeas, green onions, red pepper, celery, cranberries, (and anything else you feel like adding ~ crones do what they want and don't follow rules), and my favourite Yeshi sesame ginger dressing.
2. Swimming in lakes! But I'm not starting until May so I can do this during the warmer summer months (and it might not be 100 consecutive days ~ again, do what we want, don't follow rules).
I'll have to think about 3 & 4... 3 might involve the sound of housework being done :)
Do you know food writer and teacher Jude Blereau? She lives in Perth. Her books are wonderful! I've taken in-person and online classes with her that were brilliant. She is certainly one of my crone idols.
I love this, "In an effort to stave off the existential dread of mortality, I am reinventing myself as a wise woman." (whereas I am steadily clinging to my "but I'm just a goofy kid" thing, even as the years click along)
Your recipe list is so excellent! I'm going to cook my first roast beef for Christmas this year coming up, after several years of other types of roast, that felt like a very adult one to try making

It makes sense!
1 - homemade pasta, preferably gnocchi
2 - I started and never finished: watercolors of the covers of my 100 favorite books
3 - I have always thought that falling in love with someone’s book annotations would be THE most romantic
4 - I don’t know, but out of all the props, I’d want Waymond’s fanny pack the most!
I love all your answers! Especially the meet-cute. Homemade pasta is now on the list! x
Thanks again, Claire!

Omg she reminds me of my mum. 😭
She is the loveliest person!
No! I don't know her, but I'm looking her up! x

I think I have to add roast beef to mine too - and don't forget the Yorkshire puddings - and horseradish!
Great motivation. I'm looking forward to seeing your results.
