Hello,
I hope you had a better week than me. We all have covid again, so it’s been quiet around here, and my energy is low. I have managed a list of things, but there’s not a lot of chat this week. And definitely no lasagna experimentations!
Artful house:
Exploring Charleston House: An Expression of Early 20th-Century Art | Houses with History.
IYKYK:
There are a few days left to upgrade your subscription and register to receive a little 16-page comic freebie in the mail.
Keeping me on the up and up:
The (US) National Park Service instagram is one of my favourites. This week they included some crochet patterns in their links - crochet your own halibut, walleye, or triops. I’m sticking to granny squares for now, but it’s always nice to know you can crochet a halibut if you want to.
The cost of living:
The Skip House - an artist spends a year living in a skip converted into a tiny house in central London. Quick tour video.
Decluttering:
I spent a good chunk of time walking around the house the other day looking for my copy of Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud. I know I have it, but somehow I now don’t. It’s possible it’s buried somewhere in a pile of stuff, but it’s also very possible that I gave it to our island’s big book sale which takes place every year. I would have given it away in a moment when things weren’t “sparking joy” around comics. So annoying. I was interested to see that others are giving up on their decluttering sprees, including the queen of declutter herself, Marie Kondo.
Prog Morris:
I love this photo essay about modern Morris dancing: ‘Morris is a creature of its own’: a dance for a new age. It lead me to the delightful “prog morris” group Boss Morris. Now I want to be a morris dancer, if only for the gold shorts and the flowers in the hair. Also - I think this BRIT Awards performance of Wet Leg’s Chaise Lounge featuring Boss Morris is a production close to perfection.
Ok that’s all I can muster this week, friends. I will be back next week. And I will try to get something together for the Wednesday subscribers, but I can’t promise. The good news is that the first batch of comics are going into the mail tomorrow!
xo,
Claire
P.s. Just a quick note - in the original email version of this newsletter, I incorrectly attributed Understanding Comics to the wrong author. The correct author is Scott McCloud, not the waaaay less cool Scott Adams. Many apologies. I guess I have been reading about Scott Adams, and it was at the front of my fuzzy covid brain.
What’s coming up on Loobylu (aka The Subscriber Pitch):
The next paid-subscriber-only edition is about travel sketchbooks - part comic, part journal, part sketchbook.
What came before:
In the last paid-subscriber-only issue, I drew a webcomic about what to wear to the office, for those who have no idea. And recently, I created a print zine and offered to send it to subscribers in the mail (there are still a few more days to sign up for this).
Loobylu is a reader-supported publication free of affiliates, partners and sponsors. For access to past and future subscriber-only posts, support Loobylu with a paid subscription.
Love love love my Loobster comic Zine!!! thank you!!!
Wishing you and your family a quick recovery.
