Hello hello,

Did you adore a really good cross-section or cutaway in children’s books when you were a kid? I have been working on the idea of some of my comic’s action taking place across several double-page spreads that are cross-sections of an apartment building. My impatience to get a picture done has to be held in check because the thing about an excellent cross-section is the careful attention to detail. Every picture should be a treasure trove of delights. 

The absolute living legend of cross-section illustration is Stephen Biesty, who has now illustrated over 20 titles. This includes the books in the Incredible Cross-Section series, published by Dorling Kindersley, which have sold over 3.5 million copies worldwide. His beautiful draftsmanship and intense research make his work seriously absorbing and awe-inspiring.
